STUDIO UNIVERSAL PICTURES
For the third and final installment of the Pitch Perfect series
We decided to do something truly extraordinary. With NBC’s The Voice averaging a 1.9 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.1 million viewers, we collaborated with Universal to integrate a Pitch Perfect 3 promo piece into Season 13 of The Voice by involving both the cast of the film and the 12 finalists from the show. In classic Pitch Perfect fashion, Universal first created a beautiful audio mashup of George Michael’s “Freedom! ‘90” and “Cups,” made famous by Anna Kendrick from the first film, featuring vocal performances from the entire cast of Pitch Perfect 3 and The Voice finalists.
With two seamlessly combined shoots—one in New York and one in Los Angeles—we shot, produced, and edited the epic music video for the song, bringing together the Pitch Perfect 3 cast and 12 Voice finalists, including a cameo by DJ Khaled (about 25 performers in total). The result was a massive, high-energy sing-along shot against a gorgeous, white, reflective stage that highlighted each and every cast member of both the film and the show. We even created a funny, behind-the-scenes companion piece, featuring hilarious interviews with the Pitch Perfect 3 cast, in character. The final video made its world premiere on Episode 19 of NBC’s The Voice on November 22, 2017.

The video will mash up the song’s “Cups” from the original “Pitch Perfect” and George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90.” The video will debut on Tuesday, Nov. 21 during “The Voice” on NBC. Immediately following the video’s airing, the free video download of the mash-up and advance tickets to the film will be available on Fandango. The song will also be available on iTunes at that time. The soundtrack will be available on Dec. 15.
“We are extremely excited to showcase ‘The Voice’ Top 12 artists alongside the ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Bellas in this remarkable musical mash-up video that combines incredible vocal forces from both television and film,” said Jared Goldsmith, senior vice president of marketing strategy and digital for NBC Entertainment. “This is a great example of a marketing partnership between NBC and Universal Pictures where the creative process was truly organic to both brands and I think audiences will absolutely enjoy it.”
